Mixed weekend for Adult teams
The senior team claimed their second win of this AIL campaign beating Sundays Well 27-3 in Bruff on Saturday. After a competitive opening 40 Bruff turned up the heat scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half. Two tries for full back Brendan Deady and another for Finbarr Hogan was enough to see off The Well. Brian Cahill put in another impressive kicking display adding the extra’s for Bruff the best of which was a 50 yard effort in the first half. The lads face a tricky away tie to Old Wesley next weekend who have won 1 lost 1 in their opening two games.
On Sunday the J1 team went down 15-8 to Highfield in Cork. It was a good all round display with the scrum and lineout working well. Behind 8-3 at the break Bruff had a good opening to the second period. A kick ahead for Brian O Connor ended with Marcus Mulvihill touching down for the try. It remained 8 apiece for most of the second half. Highfiled eventually broke down the Bruff defence with 10 minutes remaining and held onto the lead until the end of the 80.
The J2’s played Old Crescent minus 5 of the first 15 team on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Geno for refereeing the game which ended in a 14-10 win for Crescent.
Bruff Juniors play Highfield next Sunday in Woodleigh Park @2.30. There is a bus leaving Clancy ‘s Bar at 12 o’ clock (hopefully not the same bus from the Derry game!!) and any players needing to be picked up in Kilmallock should contact Pat Dunne/Martin Gennery. Having played 3 games in the 2nds league and drew two and lost one,we will be looking to get 2pts down there. It won’t be easy and a full turnout of players would be a huge advantage.
Bruff J1 team drew with Young Munster in the Senior Seconds League on sunday in Clifford Park.Final score was 21 all. This was a tough battle for both teams with Munsters scoring a last minute penalty to force a draw.Bruff were minus 9 players from last weekends game but the new players performed very well. Dave Gardiner gave an exhibition of back-row play and was man of the match.John Malone and Peter Clarke scored a try each and Alan Kilcoyne kicked 3 penalties and 1 conversion.
