After spending a very tough day on Friday on the pitch in Wigan training with former G.B. Rugby League and Northern England Union and  premiership player with Orell, Twin code Dave Lyghn and our own Derry and Eugene, the first XV completed a clean sweep of their games in the three way competition on Saturday last against some very stiff opposition from Wigan and Warrington teams with 8-0, 5-0, and 11-0 wins.

I have been asked specifically to convey Many, many thanks for the fabulous hospitality from the Wigan R.U. club and for the use of their facilities, they couldn’t have been nicer I’m told.

Well done to the Michéal, Eugene, Willie and all the lads on a very successful tour.

Maybe the logic of this escapes me, but what Muppet decided to take the guts of the full Irish first XV and line them out against a French Club squad to allow them a free crack at the people most likely to be their countries’ principle opposition in the world cup in three weeks time? Leamy out with a shoulder injury and “Captain Fantastic” out for god knows how long with a busted cheek? Whose brainwave was this? It’d be like us having a training session against Wanderers a fortnight before the final last year for god’s sake.  Bloody Hell, if the French brought the first fifteen to the “Killing fields”, what would it have been worth? You’d get ten grand surely for busting Chabal…… They’d round up a collection outside the gate, mostly of husbands whose wives drink in the Sinbin by all accounts……

The first XV are off to Wigan R.U.F.C. For a training camp for the next few days.
Kinda hectic training schedule planned for the next few days with a Tri-club round robin tournament on saturday. Link to Wigan Calendar.

After last nights fixtures meeting I have updated the fixtures list with the 2nds, 3rds and U20’s fixtures for the early season.
