J1 Squad: The Seconds had their first game of the MSSL against Highfield yesterday. Highfield turned up in strength with Diarmuid “The Rock” O’ Sullivan playing on the wing. Bruff dominant in the pack but couldn’t translate it to scores on the board, final score of 20 points to 8 was well justified but not really the true story on the day. Bruff: M. Mulvihill, M. Laffan, D. Dowling, E. Maher, M. Collins, A. Kilcoyne, T. Carroll, S. Foster, M.O’ Donnell, K. Laffan, B. Laffan, M. O. Connell, L. McGrath, A. Bourke, D. Keogh. Scores: Bruff: 2 Tries: Danny Keogh, Eoghan Maher, Alan Kilcoyne 2 Conv & 2 Penalties. Total 20. Highfield: 1 try and one penalty. Total 8

J2 : No Game,

U20’s: The U20 team won their friendly last Saturday under lights (5:30 kickoff) against Old Crescent by 14 points to 7.

U18’s: Bruff 20 Vs Young Munster 10.

U16: Friendly Bruff 12, Galwegians 15.

U12 Blitz in Terenure College: Bruff U12’s were invited to this special blitz tournament in Terenure on Sunday last. Bruff beat Armagh, Ballinasloe & Navan along the way finally going down to their hosts Terenure. Jason Robinson & Brian O’ Driscoll were in attendance, our guys really liked Jason Robinson who spent quite a bit of time with them and came across as a really nice guy. Joe Power captained our side and can be seen in the official photo on the website with all the other captains. Coaches Mike O’Donnell, Pat Maher, Ger McNamara & Martin Gennery travelled. Well done to the lads, they did us proud.

Munster U18’s had a great win over their counterparts from Leinster in Kilballyowen on Saturday last, with the help of three Bruff lads Michael Lynch, John Clery and Robert Finn they came away with a 20 points to 17 win. Their U19 counterparts Andrew White and Brian Morrissey were not as lucky in Dublin losing out to the same opposition.

Adult Rugby: The senior squad travelled up to Galwegians for another runout, they head to Dolphin this weekend for their last friendly before more competitive rugby kicks in. The J1 Squad started their Transfield Cup campaign last Sunday with a 19-5 win over Presentation. They play the winners of Old Crescent V St. Senans next Sunday with a provisional kickoff of 2:30p.m. Old Crescent Play Senans Tuesday night. The J2 squad have a friendly against Portumna with a 1:00 kickoff next Sunday also after their 13-0 win over St. Senans last weekend.

Underage: Last week we saw the U15’s kicking off their league campaign with a 12 nil loss to Old crescent. Their second game on Sunday last was abandoned due to a back injury to Jack Ryan after only three minutes. Jack was transported to hospital from the pitch but thankfully was discharged later on that night and will make a full recovery. They play Young Munster in Derryknockane next Sunday at 11:30 am Robert Finn, Mike Lynch, Andrew White, Brian Morrissey & John Cleary get the opportunity to show how they are getting on with Munster U20’s in Kilballyowen Park on Saturday 20th September 2008 @ 1.pm. The lads have put in a huge effort to get to and stay at this level and this is a unique chance for us to see Munster’s finest youths go against Leinster. There is also an opportunity to see a warm up training session/game in Bruff this coming weekend at around 11:30 am next Sunday morning in Kilballyowen. The U18’s have a provisional game away to Garryowen in Dooradoyle with an 11:30 kickoff next Sunday morning.

Referees: George Clancy refereed the Dragons V Glasgow game in Rodney parade at the weekend, Glasgow winning by 12 points to 6. We’ll have a fuller interview with George over the next few weeks to get his views of the ELV’s in action. Keep an eye out for this.

That’s about it for this week, next meeting of the executive committee is Monday night at 8:00p.m.
