The thirds were beaten 35-12 by Thomand in the final of the McInerney Cup on Saturday in Annocothy. Bruff went in as underdogs facing a Thomand team yet to be beaten this season in 9 outings.

Four first half penalties by Mark O’Connell kept Bruff in touch and they trailed by just three points, 15-12, at the break. A Glen O’Callaghan try for Thomond set the pattern of the game with further tries credited to Anthony Hartery, Christian Meehan, Pat Deedigan and a terrific try at the death from former Bruff player Jonathon Forde ensuring that Thomand came out victorious.

This was Bruff’s forth final in a row having won the competition on the previous two attempts. Only 5 of last year’s panel started the game this weekend. From lasts years team 4 have retired, 7 have moved on to the senior squad, 2 have emigrated and 3 were out injured.

Bruff advanced to the McInerney Cup final with victory over Old Crescent. John Mitchell and Stephen O’Shea scored first half tries. Pat Dempsey and John McCarthy Scored trys in the second half. Mark O’Connell chipped in with a drop goal while Eoin Quinn kicked a conversion and a penalty.

The 3rds were in action against Shannon on Saturday in the Quarter final of the McInerney Cup. Bruff ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of 41-14.

 

Bruff had trys from Mike Cooke (2), Johnnie McCarthy(2),  John Mitchell & TJ Coffey. Eoin Quinn added the extras with the boot.

The 2nds Played away to Thomand on Sunday in the Senior Seconds league.

 

Thomond lead 7-0 at the break scoring a try just before half time. Bruff had the better of the second half scoring 10 unanswered points.

 

The first score was a well worked try through the forwards. Hooker Timmy Quirke threw a lovely ball to the back of a lineout which was taken down and driven all the way to the Thomond line. Quirke was on hand to touch it down himself.Brian Carroll added the conversion. The winning score was a penalty again from Brian Carroll with 15 min remaining

Bruff got off to a good start with a first round victory over St Senan’s at Kilballyowen.  A try from prop forward Mike Lynch and conversion and 3 penalties from Derek Dowling ensured Bruff ended the game ahead of the competition by one point.  Final score: Bruff 16 – 15 St Senan’s.
