After a long break the Bruff Women finally got to dust off a few cobwebs last Sunday morning. Due to the extensive flooding in Kilballyowen we had to concede home advantage and travel to Marys, where a nail biting match is always guaranteed!

10 minutes in and the Saints were the first on the board with a converted try, 4 minutes later saw the reply from Catherine Quinn bringing the score 7-5. Although Bruff had great possession It stayed that way for the rest of the half due to difficulties in the breakdown.

The first score of the second half came from a beautiful switch between Grainne Hayes and Eileen O’Gorman on our own line. Eileen ran the full length of the pitch blowing all opposition out of her way before popping the ball to Niamh Raleigh who put it down between the posts. A conversion from Catherine Quinn bringing the score to  7 – 12.

What ensued was like a game of tennis with great defending on both sides when with 6 minutes left on the clock St. Marys finally broke through to level the scores with an unconverted try.

With only minutes remaining Catherine Quinn got the opportunity to bring us 3 points up and didn’t disappoint. Injury  time seemed like an eternity with St. Marys fighting to the last breath, the only thing between them and a winning try was Grainne Hayes who drove the ball carrier through the corner flag, leaving the final score at 12 – 15.
