Womens Rugby Notes w/e 9th Nov
Twas another busy rugby weekend, where also the girls and women joined in on the action. The girls (both u15s and u18s) traveled to Thurles on Saturday 8th November for a 7s rugby blitz. On the occasion the u15 again joined Bantry and the u18 played with Shannon. 3 girls played their very first matches. Well done to all!! The 7s competition is over now and a 15s competition is starting shortly. As we do not yet have the numbers to field our own teams (u15 / u18) we will be joining with our friends from Bantry RFC for the rest of the season. Any girls that want to join in on the actions are welcome to join our training on Friday evening between 19 and 20hr at Bruff rfc.
In the picture: Barbara Moore, Emily Hayes, Sarah O’Leary, Anna Brennan and Aisling Ryan (in front, all in Bantry / Munster shirts for the occasion.

u15s that is. Sarah McCarthy was playing with the u18s with Shannon, and unfortunately was not captured.
The womens team were playing on Sunday 9th November also against Richmond and unfortunately were not able to copy the result had by the Senior team on Friday evening. Although the Bruff women had most of the territorial advantage and a good proportion of possession, they found it very hard to cross that ‘green wall’ that Richmond maintained throughout the match. Richmond had some strong ball carriers and made the most of that by crossing the try line once in the first half. Half time score: 0-7.
In the second half Bruff basically most of the time camped out in the Richmond half and, realizing we were better off to have the ball played than carried, eventually wing Eileen O’Gorman crossed there line and scored closed to the posts. Flyhalf Cathrine Quinn slotted the ball over: 7-7 with 3 mins on the clock! From the kickoff it unfortunately did not go our way and after a penalty close to the line, all their ball carriers were used to cross that line one more time7 – 12 in Richtmond’s favour.
Next week no match scheduled.
Womens Rugby
In a Bruising game played on Sunday, the ladies team were beaten 12-7 by Richmond in the second round of the league. The Bruff scores coming for an Eileen O Gorman try which was converted by Catherine Quinn. This was the women’s team’s first outing in a 15 a side game and great credit should go to all involved with this squad. The team has been a few years in the making and the tireless work of all involved is beginning to pay off as player numbers increase season after season.
The women’s team are still looking to recruit players. If you are interest in playing you can contact the ladies on FB @ https://www.facebook.com/BruffWomensRugby or check Bruffrfc.com for contact details.
