With just 4 games left the league has broken into 2 groups, thankfully we are in the top group this season,this Saturday we travel to play league leaders Ballina who lead the league by 10 pts and look like they are odds on to win the league, so we will need a massive performance to get anything out of this game, we are still plagued by lots of injuries but this gives opportunities for others to put their hands up. The lads have done superbly this season so far and will keep trying to be involved right to the end.
We travelled to Seapoint on Saturday last to take the home side in rd 14 of the ail, we we’re forced into a late change when Brian Bulfin cried off and we added Kevin Treacy to the bench. Conditions were testing with a near gale blowing across the pitch slightly in our favor. Seapoint who were enjoying some good results of late made a good start and enjoyed the greater possession. With 10 mins in we managed to get some territory and were rewarded with a pen which Davy slotted over to go 3-0 up Seapoint who are fighting for survival got themselves back into the game with a 7 pointer after we lost Johnny for 10. The elements were playing havoc with the handling but we got ourselves back in to their 22, and after being rewarded with a penalty, a quick tap and go led to a knock on, and an opportunity missed. Seapoint then on the stroke of h/t scored in the corner to take a 12-3 lead. The wind brought the rain and it became very difficult to play any decent rugby but both sides really gave their all, Davy landed a fantastic 3 pointer and we semmed to be getting back into the game. But we were then rocked when Seapoint went over for a 5 pointer to make it 17-6. As I have mentioned in previous reports the one and not only attribute this team has is loads of character and they showed it once again in hen they got themselves back in the Seapoint half and after numerous carry’s Taylor Jones found a gap and powered over, Davy added the extras and it was back to 17-13. With over 20 mins left patience was key and the lads continued to take the game to Seapoint and were rewarded when Neilus’s Keogh scored close to the posts for us to take a 1 point lead Davy made that 3 with less than 10 on the clock. Seapoint to their credit never gave up and had possession for most of the remainder of the game around our 22 but our defense was disciplined managed to win a penalty with a great steal allowing us to clear our lines. We saw out the game with some good retention and after winning a penalty on their 22 Davy said enough is enough and we finished 20-17 to the good.

Our seniors travel to the open spaces of Seapoint this Saturday in rd 14 of the league with just 5 games left were facing a team who are seeing themselves at the wrong end of the table, but we would not want to be fooled by that,over the past couple of weeks, they have beaten Omagh and Bangor and very unlucky against league leaders Ballina last week. We will need to be at our best to get something out of this, hopefully we will start to get back some of long list of injuries over the next few weeks, kick off 2.30 so for anyone living in the big smoke or surrounds please get out and give the lads a shout.
Brian Bulfin who’s turning in some impressive performances this season
On Saturday last we welcomed Bangor to Kilballyowen anxious to put the heartbreak of lasts weeks Omagh defeat behind us, we were dealt the triple whammy starting minus Liam Treacy Keith Laffen and Mike Cooke but probably the reason this season has been better is the fact that we are able to introduce players who step up when asked. We started well and went ahead when after a number of phases Davy o Grady pick out Cian Clifford with a beauty of a cross field kick and we were 5-0 we continued to dominate possession and were rewarded with a pen which Kevin McManus made no mistake. We lost Daniel Jackson to the bin and Bangor started to get themselves back in the game. We conceded 3 from a penalty and now it was 8-3. We increased our lead with a carbon copy try like our first, once again after lots of phases and with penalty advantage Davy once again pick out Kevin McManus in the corner to dot down, Davy himself landed a raker of a convert and we were 15-3 in front. Bangor however got themselves a lifeline after winning a couple of penalties in our 22, they quick tapped and went in for a try to make it 15-8 at h/t. The 2nd half saw us continue with a good start and Davy put us 18-8 ahead with a penalty. Bangor replied with a penalty of their own to keep themselves in the game at 18-11 with 20 mins left on the clock. We then lost Cillian Rea with an knee injury and after a lengthy break play resumed with a Bruff scrum and after Sean Hartigan carry was halted Neilus Keogh surged to line and scored a fine try Davy added the extras to make it 25-11. Bangor tried hard to rescue a bonus point but devfensely we were good and maybe we were disappointed we weren’t able to get a bp of our own. This group has been has been massively consistent throughout the season and but it is really the effort from the panel that is getting them over the line in games. Next up next Saturday we’re away to Seapoint in what is going to be an extremely difficult game. Injuries are part and parcel of our game and it’s never nice to see players with injury we wish Cillian a speedy recovery Cillian has been in superb form this season so we hope it won’t to be too long before his back.

Our seniors made the long trip to Omagh and after putting in a great 80+ minutes of rugby had to settle with 2 bonus points after enjoying the better of this game for long periods. And though we went behind to a to an Omagh try after 15 mins we replied with a brace from Taylor Jones Kevin McManus kicked both conversions and we were 14-5 to the good, but we were to concede just on half time to make 14-10. We started the second half well and after Kevin was unlucky with 2 pens 1 coming back of the post we went further ahead with a try from Jack o Grady Davy was just wide with the convert and we were 19-10 in front. We were causing lots of problems for the home side with our retention but with respect to Omagh they have some quality players and they got back into game with a try to make it 19-15 they then went ahead with a 7 pointer to leave it 22-19 but the lads showed great character and once again after great continuity we went ahead with a try from Johnny Cleary Kevin kicked the extras and we were 26-22 in front. And what was a theme throughout the game Omagh scored with a try from broken play to make it 27-26 and it was heartbreak for the lads who had showed great heart and plenty of skill throughout. Our retention was excellent but just a few errors cost us, I’m sure management will be looking to elemenate these for the visit of Bangor next sat in Kilballyowen.a big thanks to all who traveled and to Omagh for their hospitality.
