Bruff Rugby Football Club

Ail play off v Midelton

Paddy Cleary who is having a great season

Saturday last saw us make the short trip to Midelton in a promotion semi-final playoff after playing them the week previous it was always going to be a difficult task to repeat the win in bruff Midelton had a opportunity to rest some players from their game in bruff so we knew a good start was going to essential and the lads duly obliged, from the start we retained possession and with pen adv Davy found Cian in the corner to open the account Davy himself scored the 2nd and we were 14 to the good things got better when Liam Treacy scored in the corner and the score was 19-0. Midelton replied with a 7 pointer after a block down clearance. Liam added a second before halftime and we went in 26-7 ahead at the break. Taylor added another try after the break but we knew Midelton were going to have a purple patch in which they replied with 14 pts of their own. It’s was now 33-21 in our favor and with conditions perfect for running rugby there were always going to be more scores. With 10 to go Sean Darcy crossed the line to make it 38-21 but Midelton to their credit fought for their lives and were rewarded with a 7 pointer with 7 mins on the clock it finished at that 38-28 and there was a huge sense of relief on the players and the large crowd of traveling support.

A big thanks to everyone who travelled on the day the support certainly was a great boost to the lads.

So next Saturday sees us play Malahide in the promotion playoff final and everyone knows it’s going to take a massive effort to get us over the line, so I’m sure management and supporters will be looking for that same commitment and fire that has given so much pleasure to us all season.
