Under 14’s & Under 16’s Girls

Well done to the girls that played under lights last Friday night. Both matches were exiting to watch and were a great preparation for the season. Under 13’s

Travelled to Garryowen and came away with a victory of 31-12 to Bruff. Well done all.

Under 10’s

Our under 10’s hosted Clanwilliam RFC this morning at the clubhouse on a foggy early morning start to the day’s activities. With the Bruff team having strong numbers we got three games with the rotation, so everybody got a run out. A big thank you to all the coaches and all the parents for the buns and sandwiches afterwards, plenty smiles, and the future is looking bright at Bruff RFC

Under 15’s

Our under 15s team that won against Shannon R.F.C who travelled out this morning too kilballyowen to play us on the front pitch, 24-17 to Bruff on the day, Shannon scored two first half tries, both of which went unconverted. Bruff applied a lot of pressure after the water break and were awarded a penalty try to make the score 7-10 at half time. In the second half Bruff got their second try 15 minutes in scored by Jamie Walsh and converted by Matthew Daly. Bruff were on top at this stage and some nice play by the backline saw Shane Dowling receive the ball on his own 10m and beat four Shannon defenders, to run the ball in and score a try. The try was converted by Matthew Daly. Shortly after Bruff were awarded a penalty which was converted by Matthew Daly. Following the kick-off Bruff continued to apply pressure to the final whistle and were deserved winners.

Under 18’s

Bruff Under 18’s played Ennis in an exciting encounter in Kilballyowen today. Ennis started off the game the better of the two sides putting Bruff under pressure. At the start of the game, they gathered the ball from the kick-off and ran down the pitch into the top right-hand corner a quick try and a conversion Bruff started well but as they attacked on the Ennis 22 m line a handling error gave Ennis possession due to Bruff backs being caught in a ruck a mismatch was created out wide from which Ennis scored against the run of play. Bruff settled into the game with both teams playing attractive rugby. Ennis then went right stretching the home defence and then worked it to the left where off loads and good handling skills put Ennis in again for an excellent try which was converted. It was then Bruff’s turn to come back into the game and gain ground, Bruff showed plenty of endeavour but just lacked the precision required with knocks on’s and turnovers halting their momentum. Another handling error while Bruff were again on the attack led to the ball being fly hacked down field and Bruff were once more defending on their own 22m line. After several carries by Ennis pack, they finally went wide and scored in the corner this was converted by their kicker. With Oisin Feeley carrying some great ball in attack ably assisted in carries by Darragh O’Brien and Stephen McNulty some great line out work by Michael Clifford, Ciaran Lefebvre and Danny Kavanagh. The Bruff props of Ciaran Cronin and Shane Leahy were now getting a nudge on their counter parts at scrum time. Unfortunately, another handling error led to loss of possession and a try for Ennis. Bruff finished the half camped on the Ennis line but with some last-ditch defence and the concession of several penalties Ennis held out. During this period of sustained pressure Adam Casey who ran some great ball at out half saw one of his penalty kicks come off the post. The second half began with Bruff on the attack again Bruff Captain Shane Duggan leading the charge by leaping in the air to collect cleanly Adams drop off. Great running by the Bruff backs Ethan Cumes, Tadgh Corkery, Lorcan Costello, Sean O’Neill, Euan Hickey could have led to a try but unfortunately some loose handling by Bruff let the chances slip. Hugh Clogan was rock solid under all ball kicked to him all day and set up some good counter attacks. Both teams started to ring the changes, and the last fifteen minutes were not a comfortable one for Ennis as Bruff applied the pressure inside their own twenty-two. Another handling error was responsible for Ennis’s final and only try in the second half. Adam Kelligher came on at half back, Jack McNamara and Colin Bresnihan in the back three, Oisin Rathigan in the forwards all made great contributions but Bruff were unable to get over the line and Ennis were relieved when the ball was put of play to on the final whistle. Thanks to all the supporters that came out today to show your support. It was a good outing against a big Ennis team, as it was only our second game and Bruff know there is room for great improvement.
