Bruff U18 took on Ennis in the North Munster Final on the cold damp night of December 27th. Ennis got off to a flying start, putting Bruff under pressure. Bruff put up a good defence for a 15 minute onslaught from Ennis by only conceding 3 points from a penalty. An early injury to Dave Barrett forced him off the field, he was replaced by Dylan O’ Leary who slotted in well. Slowly Bruff began to get to grips with the game, ending the first half 3:3.
In the second half Bruff started strongly applying good pressure, winning an early penalty, John Bateman converting the penalty 6:3 to Bruff. Ennis were attacking inside Bruff”s 22 when John Bateman intercepted an Ennis pass, to run the full length of the field scoring under the post he converted the kick 13:3 to Bruff. Bruff continued to work hard and had scored another try which was disallowed and a penalty awarded to Ennis inside Bruff”s half.

The decision gave Ennis great encouragement and allowed them to kick for the corner.  Ennis won the line out, Bruff showed great character in their defence which paid off by winning a scrum on their own 5m line. Unfortunately the ball came out of the side of the scrum which allowed the Ennis scrum half to pick up the ball and score over the line. Ennis missed the conversion, Bruff now led 13:8. Bruff defended well in the later stages of the game and deserved to win .

Congratulations to Bruff for retaining the North Munster League title four years in a row. Well done to all players and coaches for a great achievement.

Best wishes to Dave Barrett and Fionn Flanagan we hope they make a speedy recovery from their injuries.
