UBL Round 6

The seniors came away from Bangor with a losing bonus point last Saturday evening after a 13-11 loss to the County Down outfit. That loss coupled with a bonus point win for Thomond has seen the City side leapfrog Bruff into 2nd in the table and with Thomond visiting Kilballyowen on Friday night it makes for an interesting evening of rugby in Bruff.

The Bruff bodies will be sore after a bruising battle with Bangor on Saturday and a 6 day turn-around will test the resolve of the squad. Bangor went 3-nil up midway through the opening half with David O Grady equalising after 30 minutes. Both sides defended well but it was Bruff who went into half time in the lead thanks to a Paddy Clery try with the last play of the opening 40.

Bangor dominated the opening exchanges of the 2nd half and were 13-8 ahead after 55 minutes with a penalty and converted try. O Grady narrowed the gap to 13-11 with a penalty after 60 minutes which set Bruff into a period of dominance for the remainder of the game. Bruff Supporters thought Johnnie Clery had grounded a certain try after 70 minutes but the referee deemed that the ball had been held up. Bruff were not able to make the pressure pay and were disappointed to suffer only their 2nd loss of the season.
