Bruff 3 Ucd 26

After a period of 11 minutes, during which time both teams were testing each other, Barry Daly gathered a Bruff clearance and from the half-way line started a run which left 5 Bruff defenders in has wake with a series of side-steps and hand-offs, and crossed for a superb individual try which was converted by James Thornton. (7-0). This was to be the only score of a first half which ended with Bruff on the offensive and with Barry Daly preventing a sure try with a magnificent tackle in the corner. Half-time Bruff 0  UCD 7.

10 minutes into the second-half Bruff converted a penalty in front of the posts for deliberate ball-killing and Ucd were down to 14. (7-3). During the next 10 minutes Bruff repeatedly hammered the Ucd line. The home team turned down numerous penalty kicking opportunities for scrums. In the last of these the 7-man Ucd pack wheeled the Bruff scrum and James Thornton cleared the line.

Encouraged by this defensive display Ucd immediately attacked and Jordan Coghlan was on the end of a move after 65 minutes to touch down for an unconverted try (12-3). 4 minutes later Danny Kenny intercepted on half-way and, after some impressive ball juggling, went in under the posts. James Thornton converted (19-3). Then on 75 minutes and after some great work from Mark McGroarty and Emmet MacMahon, Conor Gilsenan ran in (bonus) try number 4 …converted by Niall Earls.(26-3) and a first win at Bruff was recorded.
