Bruff U 17’s are Munster Champions after a great win over county Cork side Kanturk in Musgrave Park today. This game had it all, harsh penalty count, unfair yellow card and even a faulty scoreboard!! Bruff got off to a fantastic start with John Carew crossing the white line for a try after 3 minutes and David O Grady delivered the conversion. Minutes later capt Tom O Dwyer crossed again to extend the lead to 12-0. A period of dominance for Kanturk ensued but Bruff coped very comfortably and midway through the half David O Grady scored in the corner to make it 17-0, O Grady again converted 19-0. Once again Kanturk manfully came at Bruff and got some reward when their Capt Sean Cremin scored a penalty to make it 19-3. Then possibly the game changing moment of the match ensued, the Ref missed a blatant knock on in the Kanturk 22 by the Cork team and Kanturk charged upfield into the Bruff 22, just as it looked that Kanturk might score Bruff turned the ball over and Shane Doona raced through to finish off a great move to make it 24-3….again David o Grady duly obliged to leave the half time score 26-3. The second half was more stop start in nature which suited Bruff and when David O’grady raced through for a 5th try the game was effectively over. Kanturk did score their one and only try but Bruff repsonded with a 6th try from Cian Tierney to leave the final score 36-8. Well done to Tommy O’Dwyer senior and all his backroom team and Bruff can now look forward to an All Ireland Semi final in the coming weeks….

  1. Congratulations on all of the mentors and players involved in an emphatic win. Kanturk fought right to the end but had no real options outside a very strong Bruff defence.
