Bruff U16’s kept up their impressive unbeaten run this season with another fine performance on the road. This match was switched from Musgrave Park to Mahon and the venue provided its own obstacles. No stands or trees meant a very open pitch was subject to a strong wind which Bruff had the benefit of in the opening half.  From the whistle Bruff put together a comprehensive performance and were admirably led in the pack by Simon Divilly and Tom Quigley. Within 5 mins Bruff scored their first try courtesy of a rampaging Jack Fitzgerald  followed quickly by a try from back rower Simon Divilly, both were converted by Dean O Shea. A long period of Bruff pressure and brave Dolphin defending saw the score remain at 14-0 until just before half time when Fergal Cooke broke the Dolphin line to scamper over for a try to make it 19-0 at half time.  Second half subs David Moloney and Cormac Daly were introduced into the pack and when Dolphin scored their first try within 5 mins of the restart a long second half looked to be unfolding. However a magnificient performance from the Bruff lads saw alot of the second half played in the Dolphin half and indeed Bruff were unlucky not to extend their lead on more than one occassion. A late Dolphin try left the score at 19-10 to Bruff when the final whistle went.  Many thanks to our host who were very hospitable after the game, the soup and sandwiches were a welcome sight!! Roll on next weekend when Castleisland come to Kilballyowen on Sunday where more than likely a home 1/4 final place will be up for grabs.

Congrats to both U16s and U 18s

A fantastic weekend for our underage Rugby as both our 16s and 18s won their respective North Munster Leagues Finals.  Both games played in very poor conditions saw Bruff overcome 1st half deficits to go on and claim the titles.  1st up were our 16s playing Shannon in Rosbrien, trailing 5-0 at half time, 2 second half tries, a conversion and penalty saw them win out 15-5.  Tom Quigley captained the side. Later in the day in Coonagh the 18s overturned a 10-3 half time score to record a 12-10 win against a very courageous Old Munster side. Both sides now go on to contest Pan Munster.
