Vince Lombardi the great American football coach once said “gentlemen we will pursue excellence, knowing we will never catch it but along the way we might reach brilliance.” Well Tommy O’ Dwyers charges continue to pursue excellence in their beating of Thomond. The attitude, ( for this viewer), was summed up in Shane Doona’s firm but fair lecture to a team colleague who ignored a 5 man overlap which cost his team a try. Already well ahead on the score board at this stage,Doona wasn’t letting the mistake go unmentioned, and Bruff soon crossed the white line again, but the point was made. Some brilliant forward play combined with hard fast running from the backs saw Bruff win on a scoreline of 41-14 against a spirited Thomond 15. Leading 27-7 at half time, alot of the hard work had been done “up the hill”, in the 1st half. Try scorers on the day were Shane Doona (2) Gavin Reidy (2) Cian Tierney,Jamie Ahern and Darren Cosgrove with one each. David O’Grady and Adrian Cooke (2) were successful with 2 conversions. We look forward to the next match.
Bruff U17s once again proved too strong for the opposition in their latest league game played in Kilballyowen. This Bruff team normally start games very effeciently and yesterday proved no different as 4 first half tries and 2 conversions left the score 24-0 at the break. Young Munsters fought back with a try of their own but Bruff had the last say with a 5th converted try to leave it 31-7 at the full time whistle. This is thier 5th consecutive league win of the season and they remain unbeaten. Try scorers were John Carew, Brian O’Connell (2) Gavin Reidy and Cian Tierney with 3 conversions from the boot of David O’Grady.
Our U17′s continued their winning streak with a 22-3 win over Thomond on Sunday. Try scorers were Shane Doona, Eric Finn,Alex McAuliffe and David O’Grady with Adrian Cooke scoring the conversion. Training resumes Friday night at 7.30.
Bruff U17′s earned a hard fought victory overcoming a resilient Tralee team in Kilballyowen on Thursday night. With the weather gods smiling on Kilballyowen Bruff set about the match with their usual determination and were 5-0 up early on when Gavin Reidy crossed the white line. The conversion was missed and Bruff went on to cough up 3 try scoring chances in the first 15 minutes of the game. Tralee then settled into the game and gave Bruff plenty of problems particularly at the breakdown over the next 50 mins or so. Incredibly Reidy’s try proved to be the only score of the game as Bruff prevailed yet again. The defensive display was particularly impressive from the hosts. Our next game is thomond away on Sunday 13th.
Bruff U 17′s recorded a win and more pleasingly a solid performance when beating Ennis last weekend. First Half tries helped Bruff to a 35-7 half time lead, only one try in the second half meant the full time score was 42-7. Try scorers for Bruff were John Carew (2) Graham Whelan, Anthony Neelan, Cian Tierney and Hugh Lane. David O’Grady had 100% success with the boot managing a personal haul of 12 points, of which 2 in particular from near the touch line were “O’Gara like” according to sources. Well Done Lads
