Well,
The season started with a bang, Bruff’s sevens squad making their way to the final of the Meteor Sevens tournament in Highfield last Saturday. They took care of Young Munsters in round one, The holders Highfield in the second round and Shannon in the semi-final finishing the game with only 5 players following injuries. Thomond finally beating them in the final.
Following last weekend’s Meteor sevens tournament final appearance the Bruff 1st XV are back into full swing in the season proper this week.

Tuesday night sees Shannon RFC coming out for a friendly kicking off at 7:30pm and this coming Saturday sees the competitive season kicking off with the Limerick Charity Cup opener against Young Munster. This game has been relocated to St. Mary’s and kicks off at 2:30pm in Pa Healy’s field.
The J1 team kick off the season with a Transfield Cup game against UL Bohs in Kilballyowen on the 6th of September with a provisional kickoff of 1:00 (Due to the day that’s in it).

Sat. 20th:

1st XV away to Crosshaven in the Munster Senior Cup, K.O. @ 2:30pm.

Munster Youths (U18’s) Vs. Leinster, Kickoff at 1:00pm. Bruff have five players involved in this game.

Sunday 21st:

J1 XV: Transfield Cup V St. Senans in Shannon K.O. @ 3:00 (May Change)

J2 XV friendly Vs. Old Crescent, Kilballyowen, K.O. @ 12:00.

Adult Rugby: The senior squad travelled up to Galwegians for another runout, they head to Dolphin this weekend for their last friendly before more competitive rugby kicks in. The J1 Squad started their Transfield Cup campaign last Sunday with a 19-5 win over Presentation. They play the winners of Old Crescent V St. Senans next Sunday with a provisional kickoff of 2:30p.m. Old Crescent Play Senans Tuesday night. The J2 squad have a friendly against Portumna with a 1:00 kickoff next Sunday also after their 13-0 win over St. Senans last weekend.

Underage: Last week we saw the U15’s kicking off their league campaign with a 12 nil loss to Old crescent. Their second game on Sunday last was abandoned due to a back injury to Jack Ryan after only three minutes. Jack was transported to hospital from the pitch but thankfully was discharged later on that night and will make a full recovery. They play Young Munster in Derryknockane next Sunday at 11:30 am Robert Finn, Mike Lynch, Andrew White, Brian Morrissey & John Cleary get the opportunity to show how they are getting on with Munster U20’s in Kilballyowen Park on Saturday 20th September 2008 @ 1.pm. The lads have put in a huge effort to get to and stay at this level and this is a unique chance for us to see Munster’s finest youths go against Leinster. There is also an opportunity to see a warm up training session/game in Bruff this coming weekend at around 11:30 am next Sunday morning in Kilballyowen. The U18’s have a provisional game away to Garryowen in Dooradoyle with an 11:30 kickoff next Sunday morning.

Referees: George Clancy refereed the Dragons V Glasgow game in Rodney parade at the weekend, Glasgow winning by 12 points to 6. We’ll have a fuller interview with George over the next few weeks to get his views of the ELV’s in action. Keep an eye out for this.
