Depending on how the Old Crescent team is picked before kickoff next Saturday we could have a situation where two thirds of the Old Crescent front row would be from last years Bruff squad. In any case good luck to the Calf and Simon in the future (Not next w’end obviously). Nothing like a hint of spice to give an edge to a game…….

It’s interesting that we haven’t met Old Crescent first XV competitively since we became a senior club (I am willing to be corrected on this if anyone knows differently, I can’t remember any fixture) but as a junior club we had a fairly good record against them and we hadn’t lost against their senior team in the previous two or three years prior to AIL status in Senior Cup outings etc. I remember one of our long time players (GARDA AT THAT) running in a couple of tries against them one evening in Kilballyowen, a game which got us to a Senior Cup Semi-final place (While a Junior club) and a drubbing by Shannon’s full squad incl. Lacy, Galway & Co.

Anyone roll it on boys, 2nd last weekend before the AIB League starts away to Derry (27th Oct.) , I’m away to spend half an hour updating the fixtures/results list…

Former international Scrum half Brian O’ Meara should have been wearing a red cap and suit with white trimmings as missing 5 place kicks gave the first XV a get out of jail free card in a game which saw them get out of their own half twice to score two penalties. Highfield dominated the exchanges in almost all departments as you would expect with the money being spentby them this season as they vie for promotion to Div. One. Wasn’t to be though.  Some solid defending by the tightest defence in last years AIL as usual kept Bruff in the AIB Cup for another round.  2nd round Tie Vs Old Crescent, who came through against Naas. (Possibly next weekend, we’ll confirm later).

Bruff penalties by Brian of the Cahill clan .

Whew………
