U16’s won out their league this weekend without losing a match. They travelled to Shanagolden to take on Estuary and came away the victors on a scoreline of: Estuary 5 – 29 Bruff. Two tries by Brian Fanning, a try by Liam O’Dwyer and Paul Downes had one try and three conversions and a penalty to his credit made sure they continued their vicorious campaign.

Well done to the lads and many thanks to Timmy, Tom, Pat and Brian and also to the parents for all the help catering for the games during the year. Best of luck to Liam, Mikie and Shane and the U17’s in the All Ireland Final next weekend.

Bruff beat Bucaneers in Kilballyowen 20 – 18 on a cold showery afternoon and made history while confirming their place in the UBL 1B league. Bucaneers never beaten by Bruff were first on the scoreboard, and lead to halftime Bruff 7 Buccaneers 15.  Bruff’s never give up attitude paid off, with a tries by Mark Cosgrove and Brian Cahill and when Brian Cahill converted one could sense that Bruff could hang on to maintain their right to play first division rugby.  The last three minutes Bucaneers gave it their all and an audible sigh of relief and cheers of congratulations could be heard when the referee blew the whistle for fulltime.

Scorers: Bruff: Tries: John Shine, Mark Cosgrave, Brian Cahill; Con: Brian Cahill; Pen: Brian Cahill

Buccaneers: Tries: Paul Harte 2; Con: Jack Carty; Pens: Jack Carty

U17’s reach the All Ireland Final, wining against Westport in Tom Clifford Park. A try by Brian O’Connell and two penalties by David O’Grady gave the lads victory by the narrowist of margins.  Their determination to come back being 7 nil down and chasing the game eventually paid off and the lads march on to the All Ireland Final.

The All Ireland Final will be played in Naas against Navan with a 12.30 kick off.

Our U14 and 15’s squads are just back from a very successful trip to Sale Sharks in Manchester.  4 games were played with both teams recording 1 win and 1 loss each.  We also got to meet Tony Buckley in Carrington ,the training ground for Sale, where we had a training clinic with Sale staff, and later we attended the Sale v Bath match in Edgley Park which Sale won by 16 points to 9. A big thank you to Sandbach and Burnage who hosted us and also to Sale Sharks for their time. Thankfully both squads and mentors arrived back to Kilballyowen in 1 piece on Sunday night…..a little tired but delighted with the trip…Best of luck to both squads in the respective cup matches in the coming weeks.
